ArtistWorks Is a Library Perk!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play an instrument? Maybe you want to learn how to play one with your child? The library can help you out! There is a database called ArtistWorks that provides access to instructions for learning music through self-paced video lessons taught by highly accomplished and Grammy Award-winning professionals. You can access this database through the Libby app from our digital collection. Here is an example of how one could utilize the great benefits of ArtistWorks.

Let’s say there is a customer who adores Dolly Parton and wants to learn how to play the guitar just like her! This customer can download the Libby app and log in with their library card information. Once logged into Libby, they can find ArtistWorks and click “get” to gain access. Once in the ArtistWorks page, they can select one of the musicians that offers several types of guitar lessons and watch the tutorials at their own pace.

Hold on... this customer is just beginning to learn how to play the guitar and they don’t have an actual guitar to practice with! Have no doubts. Central Library’s Maker Space can help them out! How? The audio lab has some guitars available for practice use during the customer’s session! They can call or email the Maker Space coordinator to set up a time for an orientation and then start booking sessions to use the guitars in the Audio Lab and begin to make their guitar-strumming dreams come true!

Not only is playing music together a great bonding experience for you and your young one, but it is highly beneficial for multiple reasons. Music can improve literacy, aid in emotional development, and it is also just plain fun (“10 Reasons Why Music is Important for Early Childhood Development”)! Use the free resource, ArtistWorks to make some music of your own! It is a wonderful resource that the library provides, and I highly recommend it if you are like our example Dolly Parton-loving customer!
